Development and introduction of the micro-array manufacturing system SPBIO II

- Significant increases in the spot speed and production volume per operation have doubled the production efficiency (compared with our past records).-
Enhanced quality has been realized with the dust-proof and the drying resistance function.

Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. ("Hitachi Software") introduces on November 11 "SPBIOTMII" - a successor to the currently favored micro-array manufacturing system SPBIOTM.

SPBIO is a slide glass-based DNA chip (micro-array) manufacturing device being introduced into the market in 1998. It is widely used in various sectors including colleges/universities, research institutes and medical facilities because it allows: 1. Spotting of any type of DNA, 2. High-speed DNA spotting and 3. Creating two or more chips with the same setups.

Based on the above proven performance and also responding to the needs of the customers in various sectors, we have conducted significant modifications on "SPBIO" to develop "SPBIOTMII". One of the improvements is the new approach of operating the slide glass on the disk. It will promise a substantial improvement in the production efficiency.

1. Features of SPBIOII

(1) High-speed operation of 24,000 spots/hour is now available (1.6 times faster than the current model).
The newly employed fixed spot head enables spotting of 24,000 per hour.

(2) A single time setup enables creating up to 96 micro-arrays (twice the current model)
The slide glass stacker approach (a needed slide glass is taken out of the stock in stead of arranging all the glasses on the plane) has significantly increased the number of micro-arrays producible from a single setup.

(3) Automatic feeding of up to 32 MTPs (micro-titre plate)
The stacker approach allows installing of up to 32 MTPs (up to two MTPs with the current model) being used to supply the spot samples. They are automatically fed, increasing work efficiency significantly.

(4) Drying resistance and dust-proof functions for improved quality
The MTP stacker has the temperature control and drought resistance functions. Advanced air-tightness of the device maintains the stacker at high pressure protecting it from entry of dust.
