In July this year, HitachiSoft (Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. based in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo with Takeo Ogawa as the CEO and president) added a new integration (SI) service for GeneIndex system installation in customer environment integrally with the customer database to the conventional ASP (application service provider) service so as to reinforce the "DNASIS® GeneIndex" service for life science information search by pharmaceutical, foods and other bioscience-related companies. The planned sales amount for the initial year is 0.5 billion yen.

The "DNASIS® GeneIndex" has been used as ASP service at pharmaceutical companies and academic research institutes since August 2002. HitachiSoft started this DNASIS®GeneIndex SI service to satisfy such customer needs as "use in more robust security environment", "exclusive use of the computer to answer various search requests" and "integral use of experimental and individually collected data with the public database".

In definite terms, the database information so far stored at HitachiSoft Data Center is to be copied through the network to the server installed in each customer environment. Since customers make access within their internal closed network, the data is not sent to any external destination to ensure higher security service than in the past. Researchers, on the other hand, can obtain higher access performance without the need of paying attention to the side of HitachiSoft Data Center while maintaining the similar user interface as for the ASP service.

It took much time to hear customer requirements and summarize system specifications in the course of database integration, often requiring as long as several months until system introduction. The use of the software development kit (DNASIS GeneIndex SDK) makes integration of the database supported by the "DNASIS® GeneIndex" with the database of the information individually collected by the customer possible in a short time (one half compared with the past).
