HitachiSoft Has Successfully Developed "Joumon"
The Smallest Finger Vein Authentication System in the Industry

HitachiSoft (Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. based in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo with Takeo Ogawa as the CEO and president) has succeeded in downsizing the finger vein authentication system for personal authentication using the finger vein pattern that can hardly be falsified. This smallest system in the industry realizes biometric personal authentication that better satisfies customer needs.

HitachiSoft has been supplying "Joumon", a finger vein authentication system as the IT security solution for PC login and network access control since December 2003. Unlike authentication by the fingerprint or iris, it uses the invisible vein pattern to feature extremely high accuracy of authentication and difficulty in falsification. Though the vein authentication has been highly evaluated in the market because of the above reason, downsizing has been strongly demanded by customers as an important task for HitachiSoft. In the newly developed system, therefore, the optical unit for picking up the vein pattern has been made smaller using the finger vein pattern recognition technology developed by Central Research Laboratory, Hitachi Ltd. (Toshikazu Nishino as the head) as the base, resulting in downsizing (95 mm (depth) ´ 79 mm (width) ´ 55 mm (height)), about 1/3 of the conventional size (volume comparison within Hitachi). Because no degradation in authentication speed and accuracy results from downsizing, personal authentication is possible without the loss of universality and higher accuracy compared to fingerprint authentication as the merits of the finger vein authentication system.

HitachiSoft will provide each customer and system integrator with powerful solutions as follows in personal authentication through application of the newly developed device to "Joumon" as the finger vein authentication system. (1) Spreading the vein authentication technology for solutions in the information security fields such as PC login and network access control (2) Providing the vein authentication technology for existing vendor software products in combination with the vein authentication development kit

"Joumon", the new finger vein authentication system, was exhibited with demonstration in Security Solution 2004 held at Tokyo Big Site from October 20.
