Application Load Testing Tool with Performance Management Offerings
-Providing New Support for Cooperation with IBM's Performance Management Products-
Tokyo, January 17, 2006- Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. (HitachiSoft; CEO and president: Takeo Ogawa; head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) today announced it will embed and resell IBM performance management software with its Assam WebBench Web application load testing tool. The company will begin sales of the enhanced version under the name Assam WebBench Version 9.1 Enterprise Edition (Assam WebBench EE) on February 15, 2006.
To ensure stable operation of Web applications, it is important to consider performance when designing and implementing Web applications and to verify their operation on real machines. After operation begins, it is also important to manage performance to respond swiftly to changes in the business environment. Assam WebBench EE has been used at over 200 sites for performance verification. In this initiative, HitachiSoft will resell IBM Tivoli Composite Application manager for WebSphere (ITCAM for WebSphere) and IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.1 (ITM), to enhance the tool's linkage with performance management offerings. The cooperation of Assam WebBench EE with ITCAM for WebSphere and ITM will enable more detailed and quicker bottleneck analysis in the performance management of Web systems that consist mainly of IBM products.
HitachiSoft will work to increase sales of Assam WebBench EE, with the objective of granting 100 licenses to corporate clients during the year, thereby providing strong support for the avoidance of lost business opportunities due to problems with the performance of Web applications.
Along with the increased complexity of business processes, and the use of application frameworks and adoption of service-oriented architecture (SOA), the structures of Web applications have become not only more advanced and complicated but also increasingly multi-layered and "black box-like." For this reason, it is merely a stop-gap measure for performance management if users consider only those portions of Web applications they have developed on their own or superficial phenomena of these applications, and this makes it difficult to fundamentally solve the problem of bottlenecking. In the case of Web applications used on the Internet, extreme difficulties in predicting changes in the number of accesses and their peaks times, together with imperfect performance measures, may result in the unexpected loss of business opportunities for users. Assam WebBench EE easily facilitates large-scale load testing of Web applications at low cost, and also provides intuitive, easy-to-understand reports on changes in performance vis-a-vis load. For this reason, it is highly effective in detecting fundamental bottlenecks.
Major enhanced functionsUsers can have Assam WebBench EE work with ITCAM for WebSphere, and application for managing complex composite applications, by combining it with the Assam WebBench Version 9.1 ITCAM Cooperation option. By putting the results of load testing obtained by Assam WebBench and Web application performance data gained from ITCAM for WebSphere into Assam WebBench, users can easily and promptly analyze performance data on the client and server sides in a unified manner, and this is very useful in promptly detecting bottlenecks and easily analyzing them.
2) Cooperation with ITM
The combination of Assam WebBench EE with the Assam WebBench Version 9.1 ITCAM linkage option enables the Cooperation of the tool with ITM, IBM's resource monitoring product. It allows users to manage the results of load testing by Assam WebBench using ITM. In addition, combination of the results with those of resource monitoring by ITM is highly useful in promptly detecting bottlenecks and analyzing them in more detail.

IBM Corp. has made the following comments for the product launch:
"This agreement enables organizations to instantly leverage the IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager, and Monitoring portfolio of products to improve the quality of their IT applications and systems," said James Chong, vice president of Application Management for IBM Tivoli software. "The combined H.S.K/IBM Tivoli solution provides customers with unparalleled visibility into the inner workings of their web applications and systems, helping them monitor and fix problems during the entire application life cycle. This vastly improved problem resolution time can result in savings in manpower, which can then be deployed to other strategic projects within the company."
